 The vote is a YES, it passed!

Out of the 1300 ballots that were mailed out, a third of the ballots came back and 90.20% of the votes were a YES.

Next steps:

January 14, 2025 this will be brought in front of the Legislature. Once it gets passed by them, the changes will be made to the payroll and will be retroactive back to January 1, 2025.

 Freedom Foundation Loses Access to Members’ Information

The Freedom Foundation sent a Freedom of Information (“FOI”) Request to Jefferson County seeking information for each Jefferson County employee who is currently employed in a position covered by a collective bargaining agreement with CSEA/AFSCME Local 1000. With respect to each employee, the Freedom Foundation sought the employee’s first name, middle name, last name, gender, public office address, job title, hire date, agency or department, work email address or naming convention and domain, work telephone number, and bargaining unit.

The County refused to provide the requested information as an unwarranted invasion of privacy and that the Freedom Foundation wanted the information to solicit the employees. The Freedom Foundation sued Jefferson County and the New York Supreme Court found in favor of the Freedom Foundation finding that it was entitled to the information under Freedom of Information Law in New York.

The County appealed, arguing that the Freedom Foundation wants the information for solicitation purposes only which is improper under FOI. The Freedom Foundation argued that it wanted to educate public employees about the 2018 US Supreme Court Janus decision. The New York Appellate Division, 4^th Department agreed with Jefferson County, reversed the lower court and dismissed the Freedom Foundation’s lawsuit.

This is a victory for our members’ privacy and protecting them against unwanted solicitations from the Freedom Foundation.

Negotiation Update!

The second sit down with the Monroe County team is July 30, 2024. Then we will be having negotiation sessions every two weeks after that date until we have a tentative agreement. We can only give "status" updates at this point.

New SCAM!

An anti-union group based in New Jersey is contacting members and offering them money to participate in focus groups in an effort to convince them to leave the union. These offers are clearly a scam designed to model CSEA's own focus group efforts. DON'T BE SCAMMED

Change of Address:

If you change your address with Monroe County, please call CSEA 2 1-800-342-4146 to change your address with CSEA.  Why?   Once we get to the point where we have a tentative agreement, this agreement will be mailed to each person in the CBA.  If we get yours returned, we will have to try to reach you to get your updated address.  Why not keep it up-to-date?
