CSEA 2024 statewide college scholarship applications available Applications for our union’s statewide college scholarships are now available! Graduating high school seniors who are eligible dependents of CSEA active members are eligible to apply for and receive a scholarship. CSEA awards 18 $1,000 scholarships under the Irving Flaumenbaum Memorial Scholarship program, three in each region. Pearl Insurance and MetLife each sponsor a one-time $2,500 award. Application deadline is May 1, 2024. PLEASE NOTE: Old applications could disqualify potential candidates. Please do not use applications from previous years – applications were recently revised. Did you know?

People join unions to protect their right to have a voice at the table with management. They join unions to have due process if disciplined or terminated. They join unions for the right to have a contract that has been forged by a group of workers that through their struggle fought for equal rights. Rights that are not usually afforded by management on their own accord but must be fought by workers coming together for one purpose and that is to have a say at their work site. A right to dispute without retaliation.

Negotiation Update March 2024:

The Negotiating Team has been hard at work reviewing the surveys that we received to include in our proposals to the County.  We CANNOT get into details as this could cause the County to file an Improper Practice charges against us.  We want you to know that we are listening to all comments being told to us.

 Update to Negotiations Status:

1.Sent a request to Monroe County for reports Unit 7400 is requesting for negotiations in November 2023. In process by the County - received

2.Created a survey to be completed by dues paying members -CSEA got permission to send the survey out via County email system since we've had people not get the surveys via email. Working on sending this out again. - received, sent out

3.Create a Communication Plan (CP) for the Negotiation team to review. This is a working document. We will be updating the CP as we go forward. - completed working document

4. Sent the letter to the County to negotiate with them (this opens up the negotiation) completed by the LRS

5. Next meeting setup for 1/25/24 with the NT completed

6.Next meeting 2/29/24 - Team went over the surveys that were submitted by the membership.

7. Section meetings are happening with representatives to go over language.

8.Next NT meeting 3/14/24 - we will go over Section language

9.Next NT meeting 3/28/24 - we will go over all changes

10. We should then be ready to sit down with the County to negotiate.

 Negotiation Update:

We have received 223 survey responses.  There is still time.  You have till 2/29/24 to respond to the survey.  Your negotiation team has been meeting to look over our current contract.  We are waiting till the second round of survey results come in to get more in-depth in the negotiation process.

Mass Emails: It was a good thought back in April when I wanted to send Mass Emails to all the dues paying members. I've been struggling to get the right platform to do this. I've tried Roadrunner, Gmail as well as Outlook. I just get errors and it is such a huge process. I have emails in Notepad, Excel as well as in each email system. I am looking to do this in another platform that will allow for lots of emails to be sent. Please be patient while I transition to the new Mass Email system! Thank you ---- Holly

Fight Back with the Truth!

We will be holding a series of webinars titled “Fighting Back with The Truth” for ALL members to learn about the Freedom Foundation’s lies and attacks and how they can fight back with the truth. All members will be sent an email with a link to register for the webinar in their region. Please encourage your members to register and attend one of three dates the webinar will be offered. Knowing the truth about the Freedom Foundation will only help strengthen CSEA so it’s important for as many members as possible to attend.

 Celebrating the Life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

On Monday, January 15 we honor Dr. King's 95th birthday and all that he did to advance the rights of minorities in America. We also must not forget that Dr. King gave his life while preparing to march on behalf of striking AFSCME sanitation workers. I encourage you all to take some time to find and participate in observances in honor of Dr. King near you.

 New Local 828 President Michael Irving!  Local 828 is the local of Monroe County and has 21 units underneath.  Welcome Mike to his new role.  Congratulations!

 Happy New Year! Welcome to 2024!  This year we will negotiate a new contract with Monroe County, starting 2025.  Looking forward to this new endeavor for CSEA.  The team is meeting for the first time on January 11, 2024.  We will be going over the survey results.  We will publish the survey results on here and our website CSEA UNIT 7400 (csea-unit-7400.org) for the top items the members want us to pursue.
